If you look at me in the clear light of dawn;
You will see me for who I really am.
If you look at me in the light of the setting sun;
You will only see me as the mask I wear.
Darling, I need you to see me for who I am;
Take a long slow look in the cold morning dew.
I am afraid to show you who I am;
So you are blinded by the heat of the setting sun.
But in the clear light of dawn;
You can catch a glimpse of my soul
In the light of the setting sun;
You won’t see that it is black as coal.
