Chapter Twelve An Ending

A couple of weeks before finals, Katy found it hard not to talk to Deen, not to beg him to forget what she had told him. To go back go back to the way things were when they were inseparable.  The nightmares were coming more and more, one night the white being showed her a different future.

Katy was teleported to the same dark world where her eyes glowed red, but this time her family was not around her. “Where are they?”

“They abandoned you.”

“But Antonio…”

“Forgave you?”

“No…” But was the being right was it forgiveness he gave her? Or the acceptance she craved?

“Are you sure about that? I seemed like forgiveness. After all you did kill a warlock. It may seem like he accepted that fact, but did he really?”

“Yes…” But the white being filled her with doubt, but she loved her family.

“Well they can be here.” The white being flipped her hand and they appeared, again with deep sadness in their eyes.

“I won’t be dark.”

“Is this because of Wesley Solomon and Raven Ebony? I can take care of them.” The white being flipped her hand and they stood in a cemetery where Katy could see the stones that bore the names of Wesley Solomon and Raven Ebony. “See, they are nothing but pawns. Join me.”

“No.”

“Well, no answer is needed now just think about it. Goodnight young one.” The being let Katy leave the nightmare and vanished. Katy turned and fell back to sleep, she hoped that the being was not right about Antonio or the rest of her family.

Katy wanted to talk to Deen, needed him to accept her actions, but they silently walked down to Herbology. Until they saw Rob as he put cream out for the brownies. Katy waved and smiled. Next thing she knew Deen stormed up to him and started to yell.

“Why did Katy feel like she could tell you everything? How did you make Katy feel like she can tell you anything? What spell do you have on her?” Deen sparked both fire and lightning bolts.

“What is your problem, young Warlock Hepburn?” Rob asked.

“How do you know my name?” Deen was shocked; he jumped back and stopped sparking off energy due to the shock.

“I know more than you think young warlock. As for why Katy feels safe around me, who knows? As for Katy telling me, I didn’t turn my back on her or avoid her when she told me. I have no spell on her, my powers have long since been drained from me.” Rob stated as he turned to pour another bowl of cream.

“I didn’t…” But Deen stopped as he knew that was exactly what he did.

“Why did you avoid her?” Rob asked the question Katy couldn’t ask.

“I don’t know… It started out just me collecting my thoughts, and then I didn’t know how to talk to her.” Deen stated defeated.

“Well, maybe I shouldn’t tell you this, it might get me into some trouble, but it hurt her. It hurt her, a lot, that you never talked to her, or yelled at her, or whatever you need to do to work though it with her. Nothing has changed, she did what had to be done, and it can’t be an easy choice to live with. Yet out of all the people she could have told, she only told the headmaster and me, before you, the whole truth. I got the truth because I was there to listen, she didn’t care about my opinion. She was angry, she was hurt, and she didn’t want to protect me or herself from any backlash of my feelings.”

Deen looked at him in shock. He then turned to Katy. Katy wasn’t mad, but she seemed to tense, she stood unmoving like a statue, as if braced for a storm of pain. “Katy…”

“You know we should go, we are going to be late for class.” Katy stated, but unable to move.

Deen made a noise like he would continue to talk, but instead he went up to her and took her hand. “Sorry…”

Katy had tears in her eyes, she could feel the pain in Deen’s thoughts; he had opened himself back up to her. “Let’s forget it.”

“I was an idiot… sorry.” Deen said one more time.

“Let’s forget it, and get to class.” Katy said. She knew she had forgiven him ever since the night he closed his mind to her. They both waved to Rob and started to run for the greenhouse, they didn’t want a detention to serve, as in a few weeks they played their first Eleball game, versus Air.

Deen looked around for Professor De Medici; since she wasn’t around he started to talk. “Katy…”

“We will talk about it later Deen. Not in class.” Katy said she wondered what kept the professor; Professor De Medici was never late. Never.

     “I really am sorry…”

“I know. You also know I never was mad at you?”

     “Why not?”

“You are the closest person to me; I was willing to take whatever you were willing to give me. And you could have done a lot worse than avoid me for most of a term. But we will talk about this later. Where is Professor De Medici? She is never late.” Katy stated and walked back out of the greenhouse to see if she was outside, and today was a big day they were going to harvest some of their extensive herbs. Since they both did so well last year, Professor De Medici had decided they didn’t need to use the book, instead they were creating pages to put into their Book of Shadows, which most young witches and warlocks start around this age, and the most difficult part was drawing the herbs to put in the different sections of the book. The details had to be perfect as when collecting in the wild, one minor mistake could mean death.

Deen picked up on the fear in Katy’s mind. He to walked outside and looked around he didn’t see anything, but Katy sure saw something that made her go pale, when she saw him exit the greenhouse.

“Deen! Get back inside.” Katy said as she ran over and pushed him toward the entrance. Then she started a spell to shield all inside; it would also keep them inside, and the enemy out. Katy barely had time to notice the bright bolt of yellow light that shot toward Deen and herself.

Deen saw nothing except a bright bolt of yellow light and he felt Katy push him and heard her mumble her spell. Deen fell to the ground, when he got up he noticed the spell had started to fall. He knew a spell of that magnitude only fell if the person who cast it was a weak magical being… or dying. And Katy was far from weak. He ran to the entrance, and he saw a person bent over Katy. “GET AWAY FROM HER!” He yelled as he tried to break past Katy’s spell… then it fell. “NO!” He yelled as the person vanished with a simmer of light, and Katy lay on the ground. He ran to her, he screamed for help. “HELP!” He bent over her, Deen started to check her pulse and he felt how cold she was, and started to cry, as he tried to help.
