Chapter Sixteen Lies

The following weeks went by quickly, and soon it was finals weeks and the final Eleball game of the term. Katy and Deen were only to be found in the library and the field. But no matter where they were there was always a professor that carefully watched them. They had snuck out a few times with then invisibly spell, mostly to go and race down by the Eleball field. But now that finals were upon them, they stopped and dealt with the professors as they watched their every move.

The Eleball game came and even though there was a lot of excitement that led up to the game to see what would happen to the Fire team this time, nothing major happened so to say. Katy and Deen did some great moves; the rest of team squashed the Water team, so the Fires won 79-15. They all know that Spirit team would to be harder to beat; they were the only one further ahead in points, if they won against Spirit next term, they would win the championship cup. And the Fire house had not won for a few years now, so all were excited about this possibility.

They were in Necromancy when something big happened. Katy and Deen sat and tried to call to their ancestors and reviewed for the exam the next class. Katy knew she was close to something, but she was not quite there, and she hoped today she would finally break through that unknown barrier.

“Katy come on, let’s just do something else, nobody else has been able to call upon anybody, so I think we have been working on this enough, now I am more worried about potions and defense they are going to be hard.”  Deen said as he put his nose in his potions notes. But Katy would not give up and right then the room went dark. Deen sat up. “What is going on?”

“Shh…” Just then a spirit formed in front of them, it was an older woman.

“Katherine Lillian! I have come to warn you, that things are not as they seem. Seek out the answers young witch. You must save him, or he will be lost to us as is your…” Just then the spirit disappeared. Katy turned to Deen and just looked into his eyes, she allowed him to read the confusion in her mind.

They looked around and nobody seemed to notice what had happened, except the professor, who was now walked over to them. Deen threw his other books into his bag and sat up. “I see you were able to contact a spirit. Exceptionally good, exceptionally good indeed.” The professor said and then walked away and then the bell ran to signal it was time for dinner.

Katy stayed back a bit as the others went to dinner; she knew now what she had to do. She had to get into the Air dorm. Soon. Thursday night. She would not tell Deen, if she were caught it would mean a lot of trouble and she did not want that for him. By the time Katy caught up and sat next to Deen she had her plan worked out, she knew when and how she would get in, the only part of the plan that hinged on luck was the fact she needed to know how to get Riley to talk.

The exams the next couple of days were hard and people complained, but soon they were over, and it was Thursday. After their last exam they celebrated Mabon, they celebrated the darkness. After that was over it was late, Katy went to Deen’s room to say good night and handed him a pineapple juice.

“Thanks Katy,” He said as he lounged on his bed.

“No problem,” Katy said and sat down on his chair by this desk.

She had blocked him, so he was unaware she had spiked it with a light sleeping potion. They talked about the exams a bit and soon he was out.

Katy went back to her empty dorm room and preformed the spell to make her invisible, took the potion she had made to see other people who may be invisible. She walked down to the main build then turned to the Air dorm. She was in luck a couple of Airs were on their way back, she slipped in with them as they opened their dorm door.

She thought it would be a little harder, but as soon as she slipped through the doors a fight broke out and that allowed her to cast the Celo spell. She started to seek out Riley. She took her time at first, she looked around. She saw everything was decorated in Air colors just like Fire was decorated in their colors. The chairs and beds seemed to be made of clouds, literally clouds that floated on air. The beds were the same with canopy curtains that floated by themselves above the clouds, it was quite fascinating. But Katy continued her search. She was about to give up when she walked into a room and found Riley with his cousins as they discussed something.

“But why?” One his cousins asked him.

“Blake, I have told you, my father says there was a prophecy, a vision, about her. It would be better if she were dead. Our uncle told me that, Wesley.” Riley responded as he lounged on what looked like an elongated cloud.

“What was this vision? Tell us. You have never told us. He would have had to have told you to convince you to kill your sister.” The other said; he must be Damien. Katy remembered Deen had pointed them out, at end of first term.

“Fine,” Riley said. “My father had a vision; she would become a supreme evil and kill our family and many others as well.” Riley finished as he stood up and moved to a window.

Katy did not stay to hear more, she ran, ran all the way back to her dorm. She threw herself on her bed and cried. After what seemed like hours she sat up. She knew what she would have to do. She did not like it, she did not want to, but she could not let anybody get hurt because of her. She fell asleep as she planned her escape.

The next morning, she helped Deen pack, she listened to him brag about his all G’s and tell everybody that would listen she again got all E’s but stayed disconnected. She talked Eleball on the plane home, but she did not let anybody in, of course with all the excitement nobody seemed to notice her as she withdrew.

When she sat down with the MacCathmhaoils for dinner she was quiet. She knew what would happen if she told them. They would say that it was crazy, that she was not evil, and that Riley had made those things up, so she did not tell them. She did not want them to talk her out of what she had to do. What she needed to do. She went to bed early, and then waited until she was sure everybody was asleep.

She had packed everything; she picked up Starlight and hugged her one last time. Starlight meowed, she told Katy to stay, but that did not stop Katy. Even Starlight seemed to know she needed to do this. She went and checked on Shadow and Cleopatra, said her good-byes, then she grabbed her bag and then left a note for Sandra and Antonio, and another one for Tony and walked out of the only home she knew.

She knew she was in New York, and she knew she could not stay here, if they looked for her, they would expect to find her in her old haunts. So, she concentrated on a location she had only read about, she figured it would be perfect, nobody would think she would go there, to look for her, to find her in Iowa City, Iowa. She did not know if it would work but she had to try. There was a little pop and soon she found herself in front of a building with a golden dome.

Katy felt a moment of pride that she had teleported. Then she remembered her power was prophesized for evil and felt extreme sadness. She looked around and tried to find a place she could take shelter, she looked up at the sky, and it looked like it could rain. She walked around the buildings, there seemed to be a lot of people for one in the morning, but then this was a college town. She crossed the street where there was a mall. She walked up to the doors; they were open. She snuck in and looked for a place to hide out. She walked up and past a small movie theater and found a small corner where she sat down. She would have to find a more permanent location but for now this will keep her dry during the storm, that she could hear as it started to pour and storm, as it echoed the chaos in her soul.
