Chapter Sixteen A Magical Myth

The two weeks of break passed by quickly enough, but as they were stuck in the school, it had caused students and parents alike to feel a little stir crazy. Katy tried not to jump and down the walls, but she felt trapped and she hated the feeling. She and Deen had already been caught five times as they tried to sneak out of the castle. And they needed to move around. They decided to try again during lunch. As they walked down to the dining hall with a group of Fires, they split from them; instead of going to the dining hall, they headed toward the main doors of the school. They had just got to the doors when Edgar showed himself.

“Where do you two think you are going?” He asked as he crossed his arms over his chest and looked down at them.

“Umm… the greenhouses?” Deen tried to lie, but it was not convincing.

“Sure you two are, come with me.” Edgar stated and shook his head, and ushered them to the room that Jane and him used while stuck here.

“I just can’t stay inside anymore!” Katy stated as she sat plopped down on the couch that had been placed inside.

“We are so bored!” Deen stated and plopped down next to her.

“Okay,” Edgar stated and pulled a seat up in front of the couch. “I will tell you a story.”

“Great…” Deen said as he rolled his eyes.

“A myth really about the beginnings of humanity.”

“Ooo…” Katy sat forward, she loved Edgar’s tales.

Edgar started “there was once a powerful force that sent twin beings of power to a barren plant. Earth.”

“Where did they come from?” Deen asked suddenly interested, he had not heard this story.

“They came from the source of power, of life, nobody really knows for sure. But let’s continue. The twins both powerful in their own right, chose two different paths. One chose the path of light, and goodness. She created the light, the warmth, she created humanity. The other chose darkness.”

“Good and Evil?” Katy asked and looked at Edgar with shock.

“Yes, so to say. Goodness gave all of humanity the gift of magic, but Darkness took it away from most, made it so weak within most, that it would take a life time to learn, she left just enough so they could exist. She was trying to wipe out the existence that Goodness created. Goodness gave long lives and free will. Darkness took the long lives away from those who were not pure magic, and gave temptation.”

“So to begin with all of humanity was magic?” Deen asked.

“Yes,” Edgar continued. “But Darkness didn’t want to share magical power with this new form of life. Darkness preformed a reversal spell and for the most part it worked. Goodness however prevented magic from being wiped from the world. She was saddened by what Darkness had done. She was so saddened by what happen that she left the world, and threw it into darkness, and she took her gift of humanity with her. She felt they were her children and would not leave them with Darkness. She mourned for millions of years, but she came back and she fought Darkness. She had heard of the creatures Darkness had made, how she abused this new life. Goodness came to free them.  There was a battle that lasted for thousands of years. In the end Goodness defeated Darkness, but at the cost of her own existence. Goodness last remaining act was to give life to the Earth once again so her children could live. We exist because of the Goodness in the world; we fall to temptation because of Darkness.”

“Wow…” Katy was very interested, she had not heard of this myth or history in any of her classes.

“It is said that Goodness shall be reborn from Darkness. That Darkness would be reincarnated, without its knowledge and from that try to bring Darkness back not knowing that they are Darkness. So thus their twin, Goodness, shall be reborn to bring a balance back to the world, so she could save the world from the pain of darkness that had existed long ago.”

“At the cost of herself again?” Deen asked.

Katy said nothing, she knew there was a reason Edgar told them this creation story, and she just didn’t know the reason. She also had a feeling that this was the myth that Jane had thought of when she heard the word Darkness

“We don’t know. It took everything Goodness had to defeat Darkness the first time around. Who knows what it will cost her the second time. But that is most likely something we will never have to find out!” Edgar stated and clapped his hands. “How about we go get something to eat?” Edgar asked and ushered them out of the room.

“Wow…” Deen said as he and Katy sat down at their table.

“Do you think it is real?” Katy asked, she wondered about some things that have been happening. Like a war beginning after a she talked to a dragon nobody had understood before.

“I don’t know… Maybe. Why do you think that dad told us about it now? I have never heard that story before.” Deen was stated as he started to eat.

Katy didn’t really answer, she allowed Deen to see the confusion in her mind, but she didn’t respond, and just eat in silence. For the rest of the weekend Katy and Deen remained quiet, and didn’t try to leave again. Instead they spent their time in the library, they wanted to find as much as possible on the myth Edgar had told them. However, there was nothing to be found. However Katy and Deen both knew that there had to be information to be found, after all there was some bit of information that Edgar kept from them.

Jerome tried to keep Katy’s mind off things, he took Deen and her on a tour of the school and told them about the ancient myths and legends of the school. They walked down the hall off a closed corridor and Jerome told them a story of Blood Mary.

“They have this spot closed off because a witch was killed here many, many, many centuries ago. Some of the students wanted to pull a prank on their teacher and it went too far, she ended bleeding to death; she crawled along these halls trying to find help, staining the floors permanently with her blood. Even to this day when they try to paint over the blood red floors they turn back to the color of her blood. She died in front of a bathroom mirror and her soul is trapped there seeking revenge. So when any student goes to a mirror in the pitch black and says ‘Bloody Mary’ three times she comes and takes their soul trapping them forever with her. The only evidence is drops of her bloody tears as she exits the mirror to kill her victim.”

“You are lying!” Deen yelled at him. “That can’t be true.” But Katy could feel the fear as it filled his mind.

“Is that why it is closed off?” Katy was more curious than she was scared.

“Of course, can’t have students scared of a ghost in the middle of a class.” Jerome stated. “Of course she isn’t the only evil ghost that haunts these halls! There is also La Llorona that walks these halls. We are not really sure why, but for some reason she came to the school to visit her children and then killed them and herself, and now she roams the halls seeking out children that looks like hers and dragging their souls back to the gates of heaven, trying to get her judgment.”

“No way!” Deen suddenly started to look around him as he looked for ghosts.

Katy rolled her eyes; she remembered hearing something like that from a T.V. show. “You know what I don’t think the ghosts will hurt us.” She said for Deen’s benefit. “After all the ghost is looking for someone looking like her children. And you won’t go around saying ‘Bloody Mary’ in any mirrors right?” Katy said with a smile. These stories of Jerome’s really did help her keep her mind off her troubles at least for a little bit.

Jerome laughed and continued with his tour, making sure it took up most of the whole day, and succeeded in keeping Katy and Deen from trying to sneak out again for at least that day. But soon school would have to start up again, with or without the storm raging outside.
